I almost did not finish this one, as I felt the plot was painfully slow at times. Also, for most of the book, I could not for the life of me enjoy Pestilence as a character.

I know this is enemies to lovers but it never really felt that way to me. I couldn’t figure out a way that Sarah could possibly fall in love with Pestilence after he DRAGGED HER BEHIND HIS HORSE?!! Like, that’s a bit much for me. Also, I’m not a huge fan of female leads who *aren’t like other girls*.

Sarah’s character really just did not vibe with me overall. I’ve read this whole series now and this is by far my least favorite. I do think they get better as you go on though.

Can definitely tell its the first book in the series as author is still finding her stride.

I had heard a lot about this, so thought I'd give it a try. It's first person and only the woman's POV (I prefer third person and dual POV.)

I thought the premise was interesting, but as I continued reading, the actions of the characters didn't make a lot of sense. There's some real gore and terrible things done to each other, and yet the woman keeps thinking about how attractive the horseman is. I know the characters are supposed to eventually get together, but I can tell you right now that I would not be thinking about how attractive or kissable someone is after they shot me with arrows and dragged me behind a horse until my arm dislocated. If two characters are supposed to hate each other, I want them to actually hate each other. Not act petulant but really be attracted to the person.

All that to say, I don't feel compelled to keep reading this. Maybe I'll come back to it someday if I'm in the right mood.
