Well - I am writing this review at 4:30 in the morning because I couldn't put the book down so that has got to count for something! Solid sequel but not quite as good as the first book. I look foward to what the last book of the trilogy has to offer next. I don't think ms. Bray will disappoint me though.
I didn't enjoy this quite as much as the first book, and I honestly can't quite put my finger on why. Partly I think the problem was that I guessed the big plot twist pretty much straight away, which somewhat spoiled the book because I spent at least half of it wanting Gemma to hurry the hell up and work out what I already had.
Another reviewer has referred to this as "Picnic at Hanging Rock on acid", and I'd be somewhat inclined to agree. The Realms become stranger and stranger as this book progresses, and the incredibly over-the-top cover story allowing Ann to spend Christmas with Felicity was somewhat infuriating. Still, it was a fast paced read, and I didn't want to put it down.

Fantastic continuation of book 1. Loved every minute of it ... bring on book 3!!!
This book was lovely. It was so very long... and I enjoyed it very much! I loved going back into the world that Libba Bray created, both at Spence and in London and in the beautiful realms. This one seemed a little more scary to me. This took me a while to get started and get through, but once I got about three fifths of the way, I was hooked. I really grew to like Gemma more, even if her friends occasionally irked me. I loved her social interactions at various dinners and balls. And of course, I loved her interactions with the two boys in her life at this point, Simon Middleton and Kartik. More Kartik, please! I loved the twist and didn't really see it coming. I love the mystery of this one. Nell Hawkins was an interesting character, and I enjoyed seeing Gemma's brother Tom more fleshed out as a character. Overall a lovely read and though it took me a while to get through, I'm glad I stuck it out. I'm looking forward to finishing this trilogy!
Wow, i liked this one even more than the first one! And i really liked the first one! We get so much more character development and backstory in this installment. I also feel that the story just really picked up on the mystery and intrigue in this one. It's also so much darker than the first one! This is really turning into quite the awesome trilogy and i can't wait to see how it all ends!

Keeping my original rating of 4 stars. I first read this back in high school and really enjoyed it. I still liked it this time around, but it very much feels like the "filler" book in a trilogy. For how long it is, not a whole lot happens. And I also forgot how irritating I find Ann.
Though a little predictable the book was full of action. I really appreciated how different subplots came together.
Better than the first book. The beginning was very frustrating but the last third was pretty good.
I think I enjoyed enjoyed this one about as much as the first. They're decent books really. nothing special but entertaining.
The climax was a bit muddled again, just like the first one. To beer honest, they could've ended the series with this one.
I do wonder who "Mrs McCleethy"really was, and how Mrs Nightwing didn't recognize Circe in the first book.
I'm going to finish this series, but it isn't anything life changing.
