Couldn’t get into it. FMC annoyed me

I wanted to like this book. I really did. It had such potential, but I DNF’d at 80% because it was just so STUPID. The entire book can be boiled down to one line: “If I had known that, if he had just told me that instead of letting me believe the worst…” Yup. It’s just one long, drawn out lack of communication trope and nothing really happens. Our FMC, Raven, meets our MMC, Zeke, at a festival whiles she’s in the form of one of her elements. That was the only cool part of this book. The problem is, Raven learns nothing about them. There’s so much nothing going on that the author could’ve filled in some of it with her at least asking questions. But, no, all she did was think and dream about Zeke, have sex, and play with her powers. There’s supposedly a war coming and you’re not learning to fight? Despite all the mentions of how inexperienced you are with a blade? Ridiculous. Zeke, on the other hand, was doing the most. He was sent to get Raven to fall in love with him so his Queen could use her for mysterious reasons. Turns out they’re twin flames, which is just mates. It’s instalove, which I don’t mind like others do. But this man was an idiot. He knows all about Ravens history, powers, everything. But he decides he can’t tell her anything and he actually has to make her hate him??? Because she has to figure it out on her own??? But there’s a war??? This whole lack of communication leads to Raven dating Cade, who turns out to be an asshole. This whole situation has Raven acting like the most PATHETIC bitch I’ve ever seen. She lets people walk all over her despite being QUEEN and having stood up for herself at other points, but when it comes to men she has sex with all of a sudden she has no back bone and can’t say no. Speaking of sex. It was decent. With ZEKE. The sex with Cade was weird and I had to skip the one where he hurt her and not in the sexy way. I just don’t get why the whole Cade thing had to happen. It just felt like bad writing. Don’t get me started on the MANY typos in this book.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. The insta love was super insta so a little more build up would have been nice.

Also, I don't understand the conflict I guess. This whole book could have been avoided if Zeke just told the truth and made Raven promise to go along with the ruse. But it made for some great spicy scenes and I love their chemistry.

Cade gives off "nice guy" energy and I cringe everytime he's around.

The spice was excellent - I loved e very second of it. I've never been into dark romance but this had me begging for more.

This was an entertaining and enjoyable read! It's a quick and easy character driven story with love, betrayal, dark magic and more! I especially liked the magic. It was different and something I haven't seen before, especially the elemental magic. The main character is young and naive and some of her decisions I didn't really agree with but she is still figuring out who she is. It will be interesting to see her character grow and develop as the series continues! The love triangle between Raven, Zeke and Cade! I will be rooting for Cade! Overall it was a well written action packed story! Thank Katie and Brey and Whitney Dean for sharing this book with me!

“I’ll see you in my dreams, Zeke.”

I’m pretty sure I have whiplash from reading this book, but in the best possible way. I absolutely loved reading this book and learning just enough secrets to reel me in for book 2. I am SO curious to see what direction this story will go.

I love Raven and Zeke. Even though they drive me absolutely insane, I love their connection and passion (and that spice

Another book where the female protagonist is both supposedly very strong but also completely stupid and annoying at the same time.
Sorry some jarring editing problems really stood out
