I just love nearly all the characters - Fenn, the main character, is no nonsense, brave, and practical. He has a strong sense of justice and fairness that shines throughout the entire novel, and I love him for it. Morgrim makes a fascinating and deep love interest as the sorcerer, as he comes across as gruff and mysterious, and turns out to be loving and kind. I also like young Jasper, who starts out seeming suspicious, but is a decent person, and how all the characters are complex and have strengths and weaknesses. All side characters are interesting and novel, too. This book is so gentle and reassuring to read in general. The book starts out at a slow pace, but the pace quickens after the first chapter.

Both Fenn and Morgrim slowly learn to trust and love each other, and build a solid friendship as well. They have a great sense of humour and tons of chemistry between each other. I just love how they started as friends before becoming lovers. I think these are the best type of love stories to read, as it's wonderfully healthy. Consent and respect are emphasised in this romance, which is also great to see.

I like the careful attention to detail about the worldbuilding - the history, location, setting, of the world. It enriches the story and makes it easier to immerse yourself in the story. One of the best books I have read in a long while.
