This was a great book! I loved the dynamic between Rosa and her grandmother, Mimi. Rosa was very detail oriented and planned out practically everything, but life has it's way of making it's own plans. Rosa eventually was able to let go a little bit. It was sad that it took Mimi's death for it to happen. It wasn't just her death that got her to let go it was also her relationship with Alex. Alex was so wonderful. I loved his and Rosa's relationship. Rosa's dynamic with her mother was sad most times, but they eventually started to get better. Ana was a great best friend. I loved the community of Port Coral.

A cute love story about a girl with a family curse. Although the curse doesn't really impact the storyline all that much.
This book was pretty damn great! A lot of the mood around it reminded me of Jane the Virgin, which is only a compliment in my mouth!
What a wholesome love story and I rlly loved the way family played a huge role in the book. The family curse was even more beautiful to get to know as the story progressed and the curse unraveled into something harmless. A truly heartwarming listen.

Rosa Santos thinks she’s cursed by the sea. That ALLLL the women in her family are cursed by the sea. Upon escaping Cuba, her pregnant grandmother and grandfather were hit by a huge storm that her grandfather didn’t survive, leaving Rosa’s abuela, Mimi, to raise her newborn daughter alone. Then her mother loses her father to the sea while pregnant with Rosa. Cursed and cursed, Rosa is convinced she is cursed too. So of course, she meets wonderful Alex, a sailor in his own right, and Rosa fears loving him will lead to his untimely demise.
Filled with heart and love and culture, Don’t Date Rosa Santos is such a wonderfully enjoyable read! I loved Rosa and her curious personality. She has an interest to learn and explore her Cuban heritage, even if there is pushback from her abuela. Her friend group is also quite lovely and supportive of each other, even when they’re joking around and making jibes. I love the sense of family and friendship this book puts forth.
The plot was fast paced and easy to follow, and I loved the underlying message of finding where you fit in the world, and how sometimes that can be in unexpected places and with unexpected people. The “curse” aspect and all the bruja magic Rosa immersed herself in was a really interesting thing to read and learn about. I enjoyed the “witchy-ness” of it all!
This is such a great summer/beach read, full of heartwarming and heartbreaking moments that are sure to entertain.

Don’t Date Rosa Santos was a vibrant book of Cuban culture that made me wished that Port Coral was a real place. The different descriptions of the foods and activities that the main character, Rose, ate or did during the Spring Festival made me so jealous! The reason I only gave this book 3 stars is because I went into this book thinking it was just a romance book when it was a lot more than just that. .

I loved the different complex relationships Rosa had with her mother, grandmother, and the people who made up her small town, but I wish there was more romance and backstory when it came to her love interest, Alex. I know, the past few books I have read I have NOT liked the romances and now I want more of it. I was confused too after finishing this book, but I still enjoyed the family relationships that show that not all families are perfect and that even if you’re conflicted, you can consider more than one place home.
