I’ve needed books lately that were light and with a happy ending. I’m not sure why - I devoured Calculating Stars like I was dying and needed to see the sky one last time - but when I started the next one and it got intense with her deciding/being forced into the program, I had to stop. Same this with Salin ascending (which I still haven’t blabbed about) though I did force myself to push through that last chapter - even after Amit spoiled the hope of the ending.
So I checked out hitchhiker books because they were light and funny, and then when I heated a friend blab about this book it sounded perfect.
And it was. I agreed that what he was doing was soooo wrong and line crossing, but I also understood why he did it- because I was so excited to get the next email chain! The chapters between about him were a disappointment at first, but then they got better around chapter 39 - which was my favorite chapter in the whole book.

I cant tell why I gave this book 5 stars. I think a secret part of me wars between hating the romance of it all and being completely enraptured by it.
The main character, Beth, experiences love and emotions very similar to me. I connected with her on a level I didn't think could be expressed with words, in a way that made my heart hurt, and explained every bit of my soul. The way she felt about her long term boyfriend from college was almost exactly identical to how I felt about a recent ex. Her passion and enchantment that bordered on neuroticism was hyper relatable to me.
The narrator of the story, Lincoln, was like another subsection of me. His devotion, depth, wholesome personality, and real-ness was so relatable to me also, between Beth and him both, it felt like the scattered and un defined parts of my being were finally put into a cohesive piece. Which then made their story even more amazing and confusing [internally] for me.
I hated to love this book as much as I did, but it was so good.

The epitome of slow burn.
“Do you believe in love at first sight?”
“I don’t know” he said. “Do you believe in love before that?”
Dead on the floor.
The adjective “cute” is probably the best descriptor of this book. Cutest book ever! And funny/witty.
Have never read and 30 y/o man coming of age story before, new fave sub-genre!
Also Lincoln is a hottie and exactly my type, funny kind nerd. I’ll take one please!

It's a rom-com, meet-cute book with all of the realism of the movies it references. I thoroughly enjoyed this light-hearted, popcorn of a romance.

This quirky book is heartwarming, funny, full of Y2K nostalgia and my-30s-are-looming angst. It’s a funny take on the approach of digital advancements changing the workplace - and as a person charged with compliance during Y2K and beyond, I can confirm it was an uncomfortable position! Some parts were a little slow, but these are such great characters. I think I’m a little in love with Lincoln too - who wouldn’t be?
Popsugar 17/50: a book where a main character is in their twenties. I can’t get behind the extreme invasion of privacy.
