Fun but dragged in the middle also wasn’t the most satisfying in the end

So many missed opportunities in a single book to write a genuinely interesting story. Why does Rowell do this? "Hey, come take a peek at this topic worth exploring. I won't explore it though! Just teasing. (I don't have the proper social awareness to do it justice anyways - see Eleanor & Park.)" Here's a list of some plot points she could have expanded upon:
-A woman exploring her desire to be childfree, and the implications for her marriage
-An overbearing mother holding her adult son emotionally hostage
-How Y2K was ridiculous (only half jk - she built this up for the first half of the book just to skip the actual event and never mention it again)

The first half was actually pretty decent, it's about this depressed IT guy reading two women's emails half-heartedly (because it's his job), there are all these little plot details that have the potential to blossom into something more. So I read on. The second half though - WTF. It got more and more unbelievable all the way until the end. I kind of expected the story to become a horror one, because it certainly didn't read like a romance book. I mean, does this sound like romance: Huge brawny guy reads woman's personal emails without consent and learns about lots of private details about her life, convinces himself he's in love with her, almost approaches her in her workplace to kiss her without consent (a.k.a. sexually assault her), and fantasizes she will be his girlfriend after this. This is exactly how the Netflix show 'You' goes - but it's honest about being a thriller/murderer story.

While I was reading the last 25%, I tried to will the book into having the characters go their separate ways, because how wonderful it would have been for our IT guy to realize he was being serial murderer-y with all these thoughts. But no. The ending is so absurd that I read it in disgust - what a complete YIKES of a book.

And the best part is - there isn't a single ATTACHMENT in any of the emails the two women send each other.

Rating: 4.5/5

I went into this book not knowing what to expect at all! After trying to read Fangirl and not being able to finish it..I wasn't sure about this one either, so I went in really not expecting to finish this one either...But it cause my attention almost immediately.

Yes, there were characters that got on my last nerve!

Chris & Justin were two of them!

Justin was arrogant & dropped the F-Bomb way too much for me! Now, don't get me wrong, I am not perfect & I do cuss but I can go without cussing and dropping the F-Bomb as much as he does!

Chris was a distant stupid little man who just, was, well, stupid!
Spoiler Someone who just didn't know WTHeck he wanted & really and truly didn't know a good thing when he had it! But I feel he will regret his decision later!

But I did love, love, love Lincoln! His mom was annoying as all get out, but as a mom, I also understand where she is coming from as well & how hard it is to let go. That Empty Nest Syndrome is Real! lol...And mine aren't even old enough to leave the nest yet and I am feeling it already because they are growing up so fast!

I enjoyed how Beth & Jennifer could be pretty honest about who they are and their issues in their personal lives and their relationships! With themselves and each other.

Did I say I love Lincoln?!?! lol

Now, I won't say this is a Top Favorite, but it is really and truly worth the 5 stars I gave it!

(I also listened to the Audible book,, read by Laura Hamilton...I enjoyed her narration tremendously. If I happen to read any other books and listen to audios with her narration, she will be an automatic pick!)

I'm a sucker for different takes on narrative story-telling and this book does a really great job at presenting the story in a unique way that isn't confusing. The ending might have been a little *too* clean for my taste but... it's fiction, so I'll take it.

E a escrita é gostosa.
-_-

It was an easy enough read, but didn't really grab me until 2/3 in. The organization of the story was consistent and didn't get derailed by subject areas which weren't relevant but could have become over powering.

For a first novel, I think it was good. For a fan of a later book by the same author, it left a lot to be desired. Eleanor and Park is the first book I read by Rowell... and it was amazing. Clearly this author has improved since this first book.

Her neyse, kitabı pek sevmedim.
