I really enjoy the moral and ethical dilemmas posed in this book. FMC is funny and endearing and has a journey to go on. I love a good world building but found this one boring and slow to get through but plot and adventures picked up halfway through. Will continue the series to see where it leads!

This book was all 500 pages of action and lots of emotions. I'm obsessed with Sanderson's writing style, felt like I could read 500 more pages of this!!

I loved the characters and their growth through the story, the drawings were beautiful and added a great touch to the story.

3.75? 3.8?

It was certainly an enjoyable book. I loved Spensa and the other cast of characters, and the premise of an underground civilization fighting aliens above is a really great one (Gurren Lagan anyone?)

BUT my main issues came with the rest of the plot. I felt like I have read this kind of story before and *forgive me* but it didn't feel super unique in terms of sci-fi. It was still well executed and written though. I felt that certain things in the end felt too easy, like a deus ex machina. I'm not sure if I'm a fan of how quickly the ending actions happened. Because of the slower pace of the rest of book, it felt very rushed.

Anyways, I plan on reading other Sanderson books soon (I've started on Way of Kings, which sounds like it's much more up my alley!)

I think this may be my favourite if Sanderson’s books so far. Gripping plot, unexpected twists and flawed characters. I’d give it six stars if I could.
