I wouldn't have enjoyed this at all if I hadn't listened to the audiobook version played by Alan Cumming and Tim Curry, simply because I could have never got over the epistolary/diary style of the narration

We know that Bram Stoker had a great love of men, however you wish to frame it, and that is plainly clear with how he writes the women in this. Their very being and expressions are entirely centred around how good, strong, and true men as a class of being are, at least good men, and there’s occasional pot shots taken at the “new” woman.
Stoker’s writing style, that aside, is still relatively engaging, and the characters endearing despite the best efforts of the author.
This book definitely needs to be contextualized within the framework of the author’s experiences and life. Ultimately, I do understand why it’s perceived as a classic, particularly when it comes to the presentation of the story through letters, newspapers, and journals, but it’s certainly not my favourite.
slow-paced
Loveable characters: No

The characters talked too much and said very little. Very heavy on the bromance and not heavy enough on the vampire stuff
