A magical bookshop, spunky grandmother absurdly good at *fake coughing*, charming Victorian town, crow named Faulkner, a tuxedo cat named Emerson, and a right off the bat murder gives you this sweet little cozy mystery.

I just finished reading the wishcrafter series by heather Blake and was looking for more cozy mysteries with a bit of magic sprinkled in.

This book is decent and I do plan to continue the series, but I have to say the solution to this first mystery was VERY OBVIOUS. I knew the minute the character met the killer that they were the killer. I can’t say I knew their full motives, but I knew who it was from very early on. I prefer the wishcrafter series but since I’ve read them all, this series will have to do for now.

This book was nothing outstanding, but it was exactly the kind of easy-to-read cozy that I needed right now. Too little magic, and too many stereotypes, but I'll probably give the second book a go as well.

I thought this was a really enjoyable cozy mystery. The setting, especially in the beginning, was great and got me excited about cozies again. I loved the love triangle and thought she did a good job of building some tension there. I only subtracted a star because some of the mystery was a little too far fetched, but for a cozy mystery it was fine. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series because I'd love to revisit the book shop and the cute small town of Cascade Springs.
