There is a token Indigenous character of no specific heritage in the form of the police chief. He also plays a bit of a role as a magical minority in that he exists to help the main character get out of trouble and confirm that "his people" believed the Springs had magical properties to the water.
If you can get past that, as he is one of the few explicitly non-white people mentioned, the story is light-hearted and enjoyable. Nothing of real consequence occurs,
the only people who die on page are those that have done crimes in their past or are actively doing those crimes,
and this book was primarily set-up to hopefully get into a more interesting second book.
