This was fun and includes the seminal conversation with Aunt May about his powers/double life. But like the prior volume, some aspects aged poorly. There's a bit of the white savior narrative here as Peter Parker, new to teaching science, tries to help a Latina student living on the streets and caring for her druggie brother. The casual racism jumps out. Not saying teens aren't homeless and deal with these issues and that Spider-man shouldn't tackle them but having the student be Latina is certainly a choice.

The 9/11 issue felt a little out of place. But maybe that's a 2023 perspective.

Aunt May thinking Peter's secret was being gay is funny.

The opening of this book packs quite a punch. Dealing with the aftermath of 9/11, we see how Peter along with the other Avengers handle such a devastating loss. The panel of the woman asking Spiderman "Where were you?" just broke my heart. While we can believe that these stories take place in our world, it isn't until something like this happens that you really can tie it in completely and it just felt a little more real.

As we move on from 9/11 storyline, we then hit closer to Peter's heart. Fast forward a few years and Aunt May discovers her nephews biggest secret. It's a rare moment of honesty when May confronts Peter and you just get the sense of relief from both of them. Peter needs people who know his secret even if he thinks he doesn't. And I think it helps him accept the past a little more and enables him to move on and finally grow.

More Peter than Spider-Man, more emotion than action. This one is interesting, but I really love the Peter teaching arc.

The JMS stuff was good, but there wasn't nearly enough of it. I actually thought the 9/11 issue was pretty well done. I probably would have stopped short of a weeping Doctor Doom, but to each his own. I hated the weird Rhino back-up story.

just as amazing issues as the first volume, with an extremely touching 9/11 issue
