2/5 ⭐️

The book's opening was so good, and I really liked that the leading person, Amelia, was a deaf woman! The first half of the book was alright until Amelia started making bad decisions after bad decisions. Even though we can see from a mile away that she is wrong! Also, the fact that she resents her ex-husband so much and is ready to think the worst of him, while 10 pages before she was still talking about how much she loved him... Honestly, I just didn't like her or her way of thinking, especially her belief that everything evolved around her (like her theory that Gwen's murder was somehow connected to her and the hit-and-run with literally NO evidence whatsoever) and how she acted toward David... I also didn't like the ending about David, and I felt it was thrown in there kind of like "See, I was right to behave so badly and think the worst of him," and I feel the story would have been better without that part. And that part about Jake's ex-wife... What was the reason it was brought up out of nowhere and had nothing to do with the story or any of the characters' evolution? She just casually brings it up for like 4 chapters, and then it stops? The same thing happened with that part about Nora's biological mother. Idk it wasn't a super bad read, but I just couldn't understand Amelia at all and got frustrated with all of her bad decisions.
Bonus points for the dog, though.

“When a tragic accident leaves nurse Amelia Winn deaf, she spirals into a depression that ultimately causes her to lose everything that matters—her job, her husband, David, and her stepdaughter, Nora. Now, two years later and with the help of her hearing dog, Stitch, she is finally getting back on her feet. But when she discovers the body of a fellow nurse in the dense bush by the river, deep in the woods near her cabin, she is plunged into a disturbing mystery that could shatter the carefully reconstructed pieces of her life all over again.
As clues begin to surface, Amelia finds herself swept into an investigation that hits all too close to home. But how much is she willing to risk in order to uncover the truth and bring a killer to justice?”
