My favorite thing about the Lonesome Point Texas series, and Jessie Evan's writing period, is that she doesn't dwell on a backstory for her characters. She's doesn't spend chapter after chapter telling how each character got to the point they are currently but somehow she still manages to keep readers up to speed. Which is probably helpful to those who might read this series out of order. She also is great at speeding up the rate at which the hero and heroine fall in love without making it seem like insta-love.
Cole and Layla have a history but were never actually a couple but I still consider this a second chance romance because the feelings were always there. As teenagers they never acted on their feelings for each other and Layla fell in love with Wayne instead. Meanwhile, Cole never stopped thinking about her and when she suddenly becomes available he won't miss out on his chance to be with her once and for all.
Cole is sexy, sweet and knows all the right things to say and do to help Layla move on from her terrible past. He'll do anything to protect her and to make her his but Layla's ex-husband has other plans. Ugh...Wayne. I hated him for everything he did to Layla and for not letting her go but I admit that when Jessie gave us his point of view, I almost felt sorry for him. I'm kind of disgusted that I felt an ounce of pity for him but I guess that's the sign of a great writer, when she can make you feel good things for someone so awful.
This book wasn't just a romance, it was full of mystery and suspense and left me with a lot of questions that will most likely be answered in the next book, which of course, I can't wait to read!!!
If you like hot, hard-working and sweet good old, country boys with dirty mouths and huge hearts then this series is a must read!!

Another winner from Jessie Evans filled with great characters and strong storylines as we've come to expect with each new Lonesome Point story. Will be sad to see this series end.

Jessie Evans has this way of making words flow from the page and into your heart. They just taste good. Delicious and heartwarming. Chaps and Chance is the newest addition to the Lonesome Point, TX series and hot damn is it great! Cole is Bubba's brother and Layla is the girl he always has a crush on. We've met them before and I'm so happy that they got their story. There was always something about Cole that was intriguing. Now I know what it was. He's hot, sexy, silly, dirty and did I say hot? He still has feelings for Layla and he's not going to miss out on another opportunity to let her know. Layla is trying to recover from leaving her abusive husband, but she can't seem to stay away from Cole. Something about his body and soul call out to her. She's done being afraid and she wants Cole, so she's going to have him. Cole is more than willing, but when tragedy hits too close to home, Cole is torn between going after what he wants or possibly losing Layla forever. This book has everything: love, heat, angst, sadness, humor, grief, and suspense. Let's not forget the hot sex and the shocker moment! I'm already impatient for John story! I’ll take a double scoop of rainbow sprinkles now.
The way he filled out a tee shirt and jeans was borderline obscene, showcasing more muscles than one make body should be allowed to possess.
"And if you stay with me, I can show you all the fun things I've learned since we were kids."
"I think I already know a little about that." Heat crept into her cool blue gaze, making his pulse leap.
"I was talking about my culinary skills," Cole said, his voice husky. "But I'd love to show you more of the other, too."
"Rainbow sprinkles," she sighed, catching her breath as she floated back to earth.
"Curse word I haven't head of?" Cole asked, "or my new nickname?"
"Both."
This kiss was a drink of water in the desert, a hand up out of the quicksand. This kiss was a promise that, even though the world was full of darkness, he would always find light in this woman's arms.

Jessie's Lonesome Point, TX, series just keeps getting better and better. I know, I say it after each book, but it is absolutely true. When each new installment in the series releases, I know that it's going to have me riveted from the first page, unwilling to do anything but read, and Chaps and Chance delivers in the most wonderful way.
Once I met Cole Lawson, there was no way that I was willing or able to do anything but fly through this book as fast as I could. All of the Lawson brothers are yummy, but Cole, mmmmm, Cole. Hot as heck, sexy as sin, and steadfast to the end, he is the stuff that book boyfriends are made of. He's loved Layla Parker since they were kids, and wants nothing more than to put the smile back on her face that years of living with her abusive husband Wayne took away. He knows that it's not often that a second chance at love comes along, and will do whatever it takes to have the happy ending that they missed out on when they were younger.
Layla is one strong woman. Having survived ten long years of hell at Wayne's hands, she's emerged smarter and tougher. Left with a heart as battered as her body had been, Layla isn't expecting to find love again, but Cole shows her that sometimes the best things are worth waiting - and fighting - for.
"They stared at each other, into each other, until the years and the awkwardness fell away, and for a moment, it was the way it used to be, back when they'd spent hours together, talking and laughing, with only comfortable silences falling between them."
Jessie Evans is one of my go-to authors. She delivers angst, passion, sadness, and joy in equal measure with every book, and I look forward to each one with anticipation. I cannot wait to read Ropes and Revenge, John Lawson's book, and to continue my love affair with Lonesome Point. 5+ 'I love a cowboy' stars for Jessie and this gem of a book.
