One star taken off because the relationship felt a little rushed and there was a lot of foreshadowing to the twist that made it a little predictable. Otherwise had a good time and if A Soul of Ash and Blood didn't download to my Kindle 40 minutes ago, I would immediately start the second one

I picked this up expecting a lot more similarities to ACOTAR than there wasšŸ˜‚ sure, there are the same courts with the added shadow court, and fae and a veil between humans and fae, but this told a very different story.
Do I like the main character? Not sure just yet. As someone with little tolerance to disrespect and lies, I wouldnā€™t be great friends with her irl.
The love interest? Meh. I didnā€™t care for his possession or dirty talk.
But the world is pretty cool and Iā€™m intrigued to see where the story goes next
I would say the ā€œgraphic sexual contentā€ is quite moderate, and the only graphic warning would be the damn gaslighting

Someone said this book is what you would get if you told an AI to write a fantasy romance, and thatā€™s about all I can say. Itā€™s certainly not very good, the dialogue is cringey and unnatural and thereā€™s zero character development. There justā€¦ no depth. But I didnā€™t HATE it. And now I have to read the sequel *sigh*

I'm sorry but I can't enjoy a book with so much coercive control, dubious sexual consent and roughness justified by "love" when the FMC had never wished for love just freedom. Abuse can convince even the strongest of women that they want something/someone they actually don't. If there had been less of that I might have liked it... don't think I'll be reading any more of the series. I also didn't feel like there was any true plot in this book at all unless you count
Caelum's real identity as the plot
which I don't

No tension in my view. Storyline meh. No surprises at all.

But also: Caelum did not respect her boundaries. He was not better than
Jensen. (e.g. when he touched her butt and she was trying to get away but he woke up and roled on to her. Or when they were bathing the first time and he saw her scars. Or When she didn't wanted the people to see her pussy but he told her to show him "his funking cunt". Like literally all the time)
. We as the readers (more or less) knew that she was fine with what he did, but he couldn't know that because he never asked her. What i am trying to critisize is
he said so often, that he wouldn't do anything without her permission but that is just not what he did. She said at some point that it is a fact that he respected her boumdaries.
and it really pisses me off that they are all thinking that way. It is objectively not true.

Not going to lie I struggled with this book.  The general fae story line was amazing and if it was that alone Iā€™m sure Iā€™d probably continue the series.

Unfortunately it contains very consistent weird sexual content with a male MC calling the female one little one which didnā€™t sit right with me.
Additionally it deals with grooming, suicide, murder and SA.

Overall I was left disturbed especially by the graphic sex because of the phrasing and the uncomfortable nickname used.  I wouldnā€™t reccomend personally.
And Iā€™m not against spice in books.  But this was just horrid to read

Also. Despite this book seemingly being set in an old dystopia landscape it kept bringing up modern clothing like leggings.  Which just seemed so seperate and disconnected from what I understood to be the setting
