Already one of my top books of the year!!! Clearly shows how trauma can physically affect the body and alter one’s mindset. I’ve held the belief since I was very young that the majority of people who experience sudden weight gain (or loss) is have hard moment in life. Not always, but it’s easy to care for one’s health when life has been turned upside down. I’ve learned a lot of what it means to be in a bigger body and privileges that I wasn’t even aware.

All my respect goes to Roxanne and my deepest condolences. I wish her nothing but the best.

This is a beautiful and heartwrenching book. If it interests you at all, please read it! Roxane Gay is an amazing writer and this gives us a glimpse into why her fiction is so often painful to read.

Oh I wish I could go back in time and give young Roxane a hug.

Many of her thoughts as a young adult are so relatable, despite me not living through anything nearly as traumatic as her pre-teen self.

This book also gave me some genuine insight into how hard life is for those with larger bodies. I could see it, but I never really gave it a huge amount of thought. And that's a huge bit of personal privilege.

Roxane, I hope you genuinely come to love yourself. And realise that you deserve all the awesome things.

Such an honest and vulnerable insight into the author and her relationship to her body. Her story is not my story but there is so much that is relatable in how we as women view our own bodies; our relationship with food, and the journey of valuing oneself.
