This was so engrossing that I read it all in one day. It was so revealing, and it takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there - humiliations, traumas, pride, and all. For people saying that Roxane Gay blames the world for her problems...did you even read the book? Every essay, Roxane takes full responsibility for the way she moves through life, and the results - good and bad - that have occurred from her choices. She takes responsibility for too much, and I send love and light her way. I hope the process of writing this was cathartic, because reading it was for me.

A brutally honest read. At many times it just felt too repetitive for me. But her raw tone was unique and refreshing even if it was depressing in so many ways. I don't think she ever mentioned therapy but her story definitely read as a cry for help with her past trauma and her current feelings toward how said trauma fueled her weight and life. Overall it was uncomfortable to read, but I also think that was her point.

Wow this book was crazy wonderful. For her rawness with her experiences to the truths that bigger people never share. I loved it!!

I purchased this book as a pre-order in 2017 and received it the day it was published. It took me 1.5 years to have the courage to read it. It is such a beautifully written, raw, emotional book.

At times I literally would gasps out loud because I have felt so much of the same things the author wrote but never could utter the words.

It is a beautiful masterpiece!

She tells her story, in her voice as it happened to her - so powerful. Her thoughts are at once clear and jumbled to me and it makes the narrative more complex and layered and gave me a lot to think about. The descriptions she relates about herself and her body as it moves through this world should make everyone think about how they can be kinder, more compassionate and less judgmental to others. We tend to put people into a box that is two dimensional but stories/histories are 3D and complex almost to the point of being incomprehensible if you don't inhabit the same space. About halfway through the book, I watched her book tour interview with Trevor Noah. His expression of awe and amazement and just the revelation of her story was the same thing I felt when I finished the book.

I’ve never read a memoir more thoughtful, thought provoking, and incredibly intimate as this. I’m in awe of Roxanne Gay. I listened to her read her own words. It was stunning.
