I didn't warm to Kay Scarpetta and even found her irritating at times, but this was a fairly easy read. It isn't a "puzzle" type of whodunnit, because the reader is given no clues at all to the identity of the killer (although it's bleeding obvious, early on, that it must be someone who knows her very well, either professionally or personally). I did guess who it was, but only on the basis of a hunch.

Having read a few Val McDiarmids recently, I assumed that we'd find both killers by the end of the novel, but the first case (a serial killer) is simply forgotten about after the early chapters, which was disappointing.

Plodded along quite slowly then it was all over within a few pages. Lots left unresolved.

Okay she was just dumb in this one! I went and perused some older reviews to make sure it wasn't just my post-covid reaction (other people from way back when seem to back me up!), but she's going about her normal business with a fever, cough, and body aches after being exposed to a horrible virus, and swearing up and down she can't possibly be contagious, all while demanding other people be quarantined after possible exposure. WTF lady?

I did enjoy reliving the early years of "being online" and "the Internet" though!
