This book kept me reading, I really wanted to know how it ended. I enjoyed the themes of the serial killer and the virus.
||I hope they catch the serial killer in another book. While I enjoed how the thread of the virus was incorperated, I cannot understand Scapetta running around while being sick. Yes, she checked herself for a rash, but that rash does not only develop overnight.||

A potentially deadly virus. Some closure for Kay, but various plotlines unresolved.

Nobody does forensic detail like Cromwell. The technical stuff can be very boring at times but the viral epidemic angle and the evolving relationships in Scarpetta's life made for interesting reading. I do find Scarpetta's ability to go wherever she wants whenever she likes seemingly with very little red tape quite unbelievable but I can understand Cornwell wanting to create a female character with the same agency as men.
Es un libro que me ha gustado, y pese a que el final me ha gustado, para nada esperaba quien era el “asesino”.
Not my favorite so far, and the ending was disappointing... but can't wait to read the next one!
Dr. Kay Scarpetta and her friends are all over a scary body dismemberment case, suspecting a serial killer. Only the torso is found, at first, in a Richmond, Virginia landfill! Clues from the body indicate there is more going on than bloodlust though. Was the victim infected with a terrible disease? A lot of people soon seem to be dying of 'Unnatural Exposure' in this eighth novel in the series of Scarpetta murder mysteries.
Can the team of FBI agents and forensic scientists headed by Scarpetta, chief medical examiner of Virginia, find out who - and what - is behind the deaths? Is there a terrorist loose?
There are dramas and graphic chills aplenty in the Scarpetta procedural mysteries. However, I recommend beginning with the first book in the series, 'Postmortem', and reading the series in order. The novels have continuing star-crossed love relationships, as well as many interlinked family and work problems, which develop from book to book in the series.

This started as a 4 star for me.....I like Scarpetta in these novels, but this was the first book of the series where I was intrigued and invested in discovering who the 'bad guy' was, and what was happening.
However, as it progressed, I was annoyed at the handling of the unknown disease....there was no way Scarpetta would have been allowed to roam out in the public a couple of days after been exposed to an unknown disease. The bad guy sprung from nowhere and I wasn't convinced there was any proper motivation for the murders, so at that point it dropped to a 3 star. Not a bad series, but it does feel dated.
