These are just background noise at this point. But frustrating and stupid. I don't like Scarpettas personality.

Ok, so this book is crap, so sue me. At least Patricia Cornwell writes fairly well and you kinda learn something. I will have to say, though, this wasn't the best Kay Scarpetta book I've read. It was a little too confusing and Law and Order for me. I am going to visit Tangiers Island now, though.
Wooo, reading this post 2020 was WILD!!! As always, excellent book, I love the Scarpetta series!

Wooo, this book was *tough* to read in 2023, the level of panic and anxiety that I felt while reading a novel written so long before 2020, that felt very 2020 foreshadowy...listen...I was on the sled *behind* the struggle bus with this one. But I finished it, and per usual, Kay wrapped everything up in a nice, neat little bow and we are trucking to the next one.
This one absolutely did not do it for me. I was struggling to reach the ending - I kept glancing at the “percentage completed” at the bottom right corner of my kindle. Usually not a good sign.
There were a lot of over the top elements incorporated. I’m starting to hate the protagonist.
1. How does she even have time to do autopsies if all she’s doing is travelling around and solving the police’s case for them
2. How does she go to a crime scene without proper protection when she already suspects smallpox
3. How does she leave the containment facility and act as if nothing’s wrong with her, when it was clear that she was not completely alright. And then have to gall to preach to Marino and Wesley about their reservations when they want to stay away from here.
4. I’m sick of the BW-KS love story. There’s just too much toxicity and it’s starting to give the impression that it’s nothing but filler material.
5. Posting bail for the gay character - how does she even have the time to meet him, meet his mother, make her hot chocolate (iirc) and then go back and do her job
6. How is it that she always solves the police’s case for them. What are they even doing?
7. How does Marino have the time to do proper detective work when he’s a Captain. I mean if a medical examiner can do detective work then obviously a police captain should be able to do it too.
I think I need to take a break from Cromwell’s books lest I start to hate her. I do have a good impression of her as a writer in my mind.

Another interesting Cornwell read--but in some of these mystery novels, I'm finding it hard to get past some of the outdated computer technology. I like to read mystery writers in chronological order, and I'm still back in the 90s. This novel is dated in many ways.
