High fantasy with war in the background (obviously), a king and his betrothed.
amazing story, wonderful characters that make your heart melt, good rep!
I thought that this series was about one couple, but it's basically a bunch of standalones about same place, but with different characters. 1st half of the book was painfully slow, but after that it picked up pace and I was in for a wild ride.
For some reason reminded me of 'Charm of Magpies' series by KJ Charles (which is less fantasy; one of my all time faves!)

DID NOT FINISH: 80%

I am trying with all my gusto to finish this book, but I can’t. I have NO investment in it. It was interesting in the beginning with Allen’s backstory and skills but this relationship between him and the king didn’t develop in a compelling manner - going from hate to love needs to be more than miscommunication.

Nice story!

A really exciting book about politics, languages, more specific, what it's like to live in a kingdom that has a dozen lanuage and culture. Don't get me wrong, I loved this part of the book, that's why it got 3 stars instead of 2. That and Lesto... boy, I love Lesto and I love his pirate... Anyway, back to this book. My problem was, that I read more than half a book and the two main characters talked to each other, like, 3 or 4 times. And I supposed to believe that they fell madly in love at the end of the book? Don't think so. I mean, I believe in love at first love and stuff, but in this case it clearly wasn't that, more like "fuck you to fuck me" which is fine, if it's well-built. But at the end of the book I felt like Allen and Sarrica don't love each other more like they value each other like close friends who are also horny and they have to marry for rational reasons. In the future I can imagine that they really fell in love, but not in the book and I read MM books to read about romance mainly and I didn't get that so I'm a little bit disappointed. But trully everything besides romance were great in this book so here's my 3 stars.
