Ever since my younger son got The World's Best Cat ©, I've been thinking about how I might also need a cat. I'd like one like my son's cat, Nugget, who is engaging, adorable, and sweet, but doesn't seem to need constant attention. I already knit and I'm an old woman, so clearly I need a cat, but my husband is not 100% convinced. While I try to persuade him and continue my quest toward becoming a crazy old cat lady, I thought this book would be a good one to listen to. It's full of the heartwarming and gentle stories that I've always associated with James Herriot, from kittens to older cats, ones that he has "owned" (or at least fed and tried to get close to), and ones that he has taken care of. Mr. Herriot reminds us that death is part of life, but all of the stories are still charming. I listened to the audiobook, but since the hardcover book contains illustrations, I may need to get that version, too.
“I thought afresh that a nice cat washing his face by the hearth gave extra comfort to a room."

Book #10 Read in 2019
James Herriot's Cat Stories by James Herriot

A must read for any cat lover. This book, written by an English vet, tells of various cats he has owned, been owned by, or treated medically. Each story brings the cat's personality to life. A nice gift book for the crazy cat people in your life. I borrowed this book from the public library.

I've read this before and just recently listened to it on audiobook. I love Herriot's stories, and listening to them is even more enjoyable than reading them, thanks to the excellent narrator, Christopher Timothy.

This book is so pleasant and placating it's actually pretty boring. It's the kind of book you give your grandma because you think she'll like the idea of it but you know she'll never read it. There's nothing wrong with Cat Stories. It's exactly what it says on the tin. It's just not for me. It's telling that it was a gift from my mom and not a book I chose for myself.

Delightful and pleasant to read between breaks. Excellent descriptions that weren't too lengthy and often gave me a chuckle.
