Mrs. De Winter: The Sequel To Daphne Du Maurier's Rebecca by Susan Hill

There's no doubt that Susan Hill is a genius writer. It's just that this particular book wasn't my favorite of hers.
It was quite boring, nothing really happened. That should not have been a problem since, in Rebecca, the atmosphere and the characters made the book so amazing. Here, it didn't work out so great.
Also, I hated that ending. I don't know why exactly. It just wasn't satisfying for me.
I will not reread this book ever, that I'm sure of.

The current obsession with sequels, fueled by Hollywood, is a mistake in my view - at least when they are written by other than the original authors, however talented the sequel-writer might be in their own right. Rebecca is a very tough act to follow, too tough for Mrs. de Winter.

It just felt really galling after finishing Rebecca; I didn't feel like it led on from the original very well, and the plot was just a bit boring and too slow for me. I hardly ever DNF a book, but this is the second Susan Hill book I haven't been able to get into.

'Rebecca' by Daphne du Maurier is my favourite fiction book, and one I have read many, many times. I was curious to see how this was, though I held no hope of enjoying it, and believe most follow-up novels from different authors are no good. However, I surprisingly found this very good, and thought that Susan Hill captured the voice of Mrs de Winter well, on the most part.
I found her character insanely annoying though, probably even more so than I did in the original book. Nevertheless, I suppose this is realistic in a way. I found the ending interesting too; not sure I like it (though I don't dislike it) but I understand it and think it holds merit.

slow moving which isnt always a bad thing but the ending was disapointing. you were led to believe there would be twist similar to the one in rebecca but I left me feeling rather flat when I turned the last page. I was left felling like there was no closure and that the story either wasnt finished or wasnt finished in the way I wanted
