I actually stopped reading this book halfway through. After reading Patchett's "Bel Canto," I was sadly disappointed with this.

I kept reading it because I wanted to know what happened, but the whole books made me uncomfortable and I didn’t understand the ending.
Ann Patchett is one of my favorite authors. This book does not disappoint. A unique story well told. A focus on love, loss, parenthood and second chances.
Was 3.5 stars really....not her best but still faithful to her sturdy characters and twists of fate.
As an unabashed Patchett fan this review might be biased, but I loved it so much I don't even care. If you pick up this book DO NOT read the synopsis on the back as my edition had too many spoilers. This is a story best read with surprises intact. Also, if the flashbacks don't gel for you, trust me. By the ending, they will
I've read 5 novels from Ann Patchett that I loved, so now I'm reading through her backlist. I picked up Taft at a recent book sale so I thought I'd start with this.
This is a tale of fatherhood told through two parallel stories emphasizing the importance of fathers in the life of their children. While I enjoyed the actual writing, it did not raise the emotional reactions I usually have to her stories. I would skip this one and stick with her more recent work.
