I thought this book was going to be awful but it actually turned out okay. I simply didn't like the way in which it was written, which I think is a reflection on my personal taste as opposed to the author

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve. Twelve are dead. All killed at the hands of The People, a powerful cult who serves their Master and is lead by Coron, a crazed man. They believe that they will rule the world and bring everyone happiness and power once they kill the Impostor- someone destined to destroy The People and Coron. The only thing they know about the Impostor is that he is born on midnight of the new millennium. So, Coron and his cult set out to destroy all the people that has been born on the new millennium. Adam is 13 now, and is the last person to be killed, and he is also the Impostor. Therefore, Coron sets out to sacrifice Adam so his 'new age' may begin. Through many dangers and betrayals, Adam learns to trust who he can and he is pushed to the limits.

Adam is a 13 year old boy who is adopted by the Grants. He knows nothing about his real life. He's friends with Megan, one of the smartest girls in his class and they tend to stick together through thick and thin. Throughout the book, Adam changes a lot and matures a lot. He definitely changes once he 'accidentally' killed someone (although it was self defence). Adam is very loyal and brave, especially when he tries to make a deal with Coron to bargain for Megan's safety and life. I find him also extremely clever and cunning- when he could outwit Viper and even Coron, even though they sort of guessed in the end. Another one of my favourite characters is Simon. The 17 year old teenager who ran away from the People and decided to help Adam. He's smart and willing to sacrifice a lot of things (including life) to help Adam.

Thirteen is a crazy and action-packed book which kept me on the edge throughout the whole story. It was a thrilling read and I can't wait for the next book! Especially how Thirteen ended with a cliffhanger.

I have to say that I loved this book from start to finish!
Thede was a lot of dialogue and interaction between characters, they was just enough action throughout that it didn't take over from the big piece of action that it was building up to. Overall, it was just a well balanced, action filled book.

This is definitely one of those books that I think will be easy for most people to read and is definitely one that can be read more than once. It's a great introduction to YA Action/Thriller (a soft introduction).

I haven't looked into sequels and things as I went into this pretty much blind, but it really has potential to be a awesome series or at least its a good start to an introduction of crazy cult thrillers.

This was a complete cover buy for me. I saw this in a supermarket for a decent price and the publication of it definitely drew me in. In my edition, which is a paperback, the edges of the pages are yellow and also printed with typography and the covers are yellow with very simplistic illustrations on them. The yellow and black design definitely makes for an eyecatching book and I just had to pick it up.

Going into this novel, I thought it would be a children’s book, or at least YA, but I think that possibly it is being marketed too young; there are some scenes that are extremely violent and heavy which as an adult I was fine with but I don’t think this is the kind of book that a child should read; maybe 14 and up.

Having said that I think that the way this author doesn’t shy away from the violence makes for a very tense and heart-pounding read.

I found this to be an extremely suspenseful book and one that was very fast to read too. Obviously with it being aimed at younger readers the language was quite simple and the text a little larger than I am used to, but the short chapters and the creepy plot really kept me hooked into the story. The idea of the cult was really quite creepy and made the situation even more dangerous. I expected, going into this, that there would be something supernatural about this book but I soon realised that there wasn’t. This wasn’t a disappointment at all but to me, it made it more scary that these were normal humans were this psychotic.

I found the ages of the children a little unrealistic for the events that take place but overall I quite liked the characters. They were all flawed but I enjoyed reading about them. I felt that the story ended in a way that tied everything up nicely but the last paragraph opened it back up for a sequel which I might pick up when it comes out.
