It is impossible to talk about this without spoiling the original trilogy, which you should read. But, like Kelsier, I will aim to do the impossible. You think it is one thing going in, due to the cleverly written blurb on the back, then get something completely different, but far more fascinating. The curtain is pealed away on certain events during the main series and light is shed on the deeper battle taking place behind the scenes in the greater Cosmere with a lovable lead who is just as confused as us. Luckily, he catches on quick and we get some cool character moments of our hero shaping events from [spoilers]. Read it after the original trilogy and before you jump into the rest of the Cosmere and prepare to have your mind blown! If you haven't read the original trilogy or have forgotten a lot of it, reread it because this will feel very disjointed without that knowledge. This is after all, a supplemental secret history...

It's basically a condensed alternate POV book. pretty much all of the important information could be inferred from the other books. I was flat out bored most of this book.

Seriously WTF I did not see anyyyyyy of this coming ngl

I read this after Bands of Mourning (following published order) and can now see why some people recommended reading it soon after Hero of Ages instead. Unfortunately I read the original trilogy a while ago, and the alleged spoilers for Bands of Mourning are IMO very minor and barely relevant to the plot of Era 2 so far, so I feel a bit short-changed.

Regardless, this is a decent read that feels like an extended easter egg related to the events of Mistborn, and also touches on higher-level Cosmere stuff.
