It's not the thing that breaks you need to watch out for. It's the cascade. P75
I always collect good quotes as I read, generally some lyrical prose or super poetic moment, or the meaning of the book condensed into one line. Caliban's War isn't that kind of book, but I've collected a few lines nonetheless, and now, reading them all together, there's a commonality to them that's more than fitting.
The narrative is long and winding and very satisfying to conclude - we're all routing for Prax and Mei, for Holden to stop being an idiot for two minutes (though that is just Holden being Holden), and Avasarala and Bobbie to continue being the absolute bad assess they so naturally are. I particularly enjoyed Amos in this book, his determination to get Mei and the kindness with which he treats so many of the characters; his calm and matter of fact treatment of Holden, the patience and respect he offers Prax I'm excited to get his POV in a future book. All of this was important, and interesting to see played out on the page where I've already seen it on screen, but it's also build up. A long, action packed, character driven build up to whatever the hell has been going on on Venus. They are small in comparison. They have been fighting small wars in the face of something much larger.
He was the eye of God, drinking in the light of infinite stars, and he was a speck of dust on a speck of dust, clipped by his mag boots to the body of a ship unthinkably more powerful than himself, and unimportant before the face of the abyss. P298
