- I had really high hopes for this book, but it turns out that the story was just alright.

- I'm a big Jessica Day George fan, but this isn't my favorite book of hers. It has so much going for it, but I feel like it just barely missed the mark of being something awesome.

- The setting was amazing! The book showcases Romania and the time period beautifully. I feel like the book is mostly eye candy.

- The family secret wasn't super shocking and amazing. I'm sure it was to the characters in the time period, but it wasn't for me as a reader. I felt like there was a lot of build up to the secret, and then it was very anti-climactic and predictable. Also, I wish the secret had been revealed earlier in the story so more of the conflicts could have had more time.

- The beginning was slow, but the book picks up about halfway through, and I enjoyed the second half a lot more. I still enjoyed the first half, but it was a lot of setup.

- Dacia and Lou grew on me, but not a ton. I didn't really love any of the characters. I liked them well enough, but not enough to sympathize very much.

- I really liked the homage to Stoker's Dracula. There were mentions of the book in the story. There were also letters and diary entries similar to the ones in Dracula. That was fun.

- Overall, I enjoyed the book and I think it is worth the read, but it didn't live up to my expectations.

Unlike one of its protagonists, this book doesn't have any teeth. But it was a good enough vacation read, I guess.

The whole storyline was amazing, though. It’s about two young New York girls, Dacia and Lou, that have a secret with their lineage. With the historical background of Romanian, it’s actually could have been more exciting than this. But, the execution was much boring, the most disappointment was from the teenage duo, Dacia and Lou. At least 2/3 percent of this book contains their silly conversation like about dresses, Princes, and whining. However, thank God, after page 220s it’s all get better. The characters are improving, growing and more exciting scenes come up. Sums up, f a fun fast read I think it’s pretty good. But not for them who’s rooted for more complicated things.

Carino, ma niente di più. Un buon retelling di Dracula comunque.

I don't know that my opinion is accurate since I had to put this book don MANY times to attend to work issues. Once I had longer stretches of uninterrupted time, I attached quickly to the characters and the plot grabbed me.

Probably hard for 6th grade and under to follow (with exceptions, of course), but would appeal to 7th grade and up who like light romance, humor, and historical fiction.

Putting this one down. Halfway through the book and the story's only JUST covered the book description events. So slow...I can't.

Silver in the Blood is now one of my favorite books from Jessica Day George, eclipsed only by Princess of the Midnight Ball. I loved the characters and their struggles. I would love a sequel to find out what happens next to the girls! Thanks for the fun!

Ohhh my god where do I even start? First of all I absolutely love the concept of this book. Two cousins visit their family in Romania who serve the Draculas and discover a terrible family secret? And in the year of the publication of Bram Stoker's Dracula?? Yes please! Because of this, I had very high expectations for this book, that were mostly met.

Dacia and Lou are two pampered debutantes living in New York who are sent to visit their Florescu relatives in Romania, and little did they know their family hid a very dark secret: they are the Wing, the Claw, and the Smoke. In other words, some of them can transform into huge bats, others can transform into giant wolves, and few can transform into clouds of mist, but no Florescu has had that ability in decades. Dacia and Lou are sent to Romania to discover their abilities and serve the Dracula family, but the girls find themselves unwilling to do the latter, which their family has done for the last 400 years.

It was so refreshing to be reading a book in the third person point of view and feel like I was right alongside the characters. The writing was absolutely amazing and detailed, and I admit I did have to look up the meaning of a word or two. I loved the characters and how down-to-earth they were at times (for being a part of a family of a high status), and felt that I had an obligation to protect them, despite thinking at first that I would be annoyed by how spoiled and pampered they would be.

Alas, I did take off .5 of a star for a reason. To my disappointment, so many questions were left unanswered. I'm still sitting here trying to discover answers to these questions. I hope that Jessica Day George will write a sequel and be able to answer some of these questions, but for now I believe that this book is not part of a series. Another reason for taking away that .5 of a star was for a historical error on page 134. I only caught the error because of how much I know about Vlad Tepeș/Vlad the Impaler, being a Dracula fan myself. I'll see if you can catch it too. ;)

Overall, this was a great book, and I would recommend it to those who love anything to do with Dracula, Vlad the Impaler, family secrets, Eastern Europe in the late 1890s, and shapeshifters.
