Okay hear me out, I realize there are many flaws of this book, but like the tv show made me love it no matter what. That’s the power Leo Woodall and Ambika Mod have over me. Anyways there were things I didn’t like about the book/changes the show made that were better imo so that’s why the book isn’t a 5 for me (bc the tv show is a 5 for me) (
like him dating maddy at the end wtf??? TV dex would never! Oh and Tilly’s character being like annoying and stuff.. didn’t like that one bit. Her being besties with Emma was so much better
) but overall I loved it and was less emotional reading it compared to watching it on screen. Dex + Em 4ever and I remain the president of Dexter Mayhew apologists

‘Whatever happens tomorrow, we had today; and I'll always remember’

Okay, controversial I know but I picked this up after watching the Netflix series and as much as I loved the book the series really hit me hard.

Still it was an absolutely heartbreakingly beautiful book that really makes you consider life. I personally had a great fondness over the two main characters. Em and Dex. Dex and Em.

BRUV, I MEAN— 😭

I mean the only real complaint was that it felt like Emma’s death was kinda an after thought when it happened? We get Dexter grieving a year later but still I think if you’re going to do that to the characters and the reader, you’re going to need to give it a bit more substance.

I didn’t think I’d like this book as much as I did.

One day by David Nicholls was an interesting read following the lives of Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew, who meet on the night of their university graduation and then go their separate ways.

The book then tells their story through the lens of a specific day, the 15th July, St. Swithin's day, every year from 1988 to 2007, through the highlights and lowlights, from being friends to being married to other people to the end of one of their lives.

The narrative is an intriguing one, however as I read it I felt getting more and more cheated of getting the whole story! I am happy that I have read it, but it is not one that I will stay in the memory for long.
