This book was a little harder for me to get into. I had to read the first sentence three times before I really understood what it said. This could of course also be due to my dyslexia. Once I got into the book, it was a quick read. Fantasy mixed with romance, enemies to lover and of course a secret that has been kept under wraps for too long. The perfect combination for someone who likes a romantic book with a little something extra. Three stars for me because I couldn't completely sink into the writing style. Sometimes it took me just a little too much effort to understand what the author wanted to say.
This was so cute! Like seriously adorable but it also had me sobbing for the last 20% or the book. Good news it didn’t break my rules of ending happily, I won’t read books that end sad but oh gosh it had me worried.

I'm sorry but I cannot get over how stupid their "rivalry" is... There's no actual reason they should dislike each other so much. They act like toddlers pulling each other's pigtails. Their relationship annoys me so much that I don't think I'll be happy for them when they do get together 😅
The setting and the other characters are interesting, but not enough to make me want to finish this.

I saw this book recommended as similar to “Divine Rivals” by Rebecca Ross, and I can totally see where you get that comparison. I loved this book. The setting and world building and lore were unique and fresh. The supporting characters were absolutely lovable. Mercy’s family are hilarious, and Hart’s apprentice, Duckers, is so precious I want to squeeze him.
I love that Mercy isn’t a damsel in distress who needs the “Hero” to save her. She is able to work through the main conflict she’s facing (with the help of her sister and ex boyfriend [and a hemorrhoid pillow]) and take care of her problems mostly on her own.
The part where I thought this could have used some work was in the transition from enemies to lovers. It felt a bit like a switch had been flipped, and I felt it could have been more gradual and natural. I do love Hart and Mercy though, and while I didn’t see the ending coming the way it did (which was nice because I can usually predict things coming a mile away), I was very pleased with how it worked itself out.
Highly recommend if you like enemies to lovers tropes, secret pen pals, lady undertakers, and semi-fantastical settings.

I laughed, I cried, I giggled, I groaned, I wanted to throw the book against the wall only to pick it back up again.
EVERY. FEELING. POSSIBLE. Has been felt.
Hart and Mercy - I thank you.
This book is a beautiful story that follows enemies to lovers, and it's a slower progression - at times frustrating because the protragnosts just DO NOT TALK TO EEACH OTHER GAHHHH <-- but that's also part of their journey.
If you expect them to constantly be together - you'Re wrong - this is about character development not a 'every page has to be about them romancing' <-- the story has been beautifully executed and I cried SO hard near the end. It's an incredible read if you want your heart to melt, break, then sew it back together and be happy <3
