Ok so I will admit I struggled. The first 100 pages or so were almost a chore but the more I read the more I couldn’t put it down. The majority has been read in the last 3 days and I haven’t felt that much emotion from a book in a while! Truly beautiful!

This book wasn't bad. I really liked the story line of 3 sisters coming together after 7 years to embrace their witchyness. While there there was a man who was evil, and while they are trying to hide since witchcraft is taboo and illegal, this evil man is trying to kill them and take over. Of course in the end the sisters win and live happily still practicing witch craft in secret and helping other women along the way.

The book version of the saying “The didn’t burn witches; they burned women.” Might be my new favorite book in the entire world. Figurative language used in the most empowering of ways. Reads like literary fiction, fairytale, magical realism, partial historical fiction of the women’s suffrage movement, feminist fiction, all with a backbone made of the magic of women and sisterhood. How I could want to live in a world of such horrors, but somehow I wanted to be swallowed into it because of Harrow’s writing and the power she gives her female characters. I feel so indebted to the women who fought for us long before we were born, willfully walking into incredible physical and emotional suffering so that a better world for their granddaughter’s daughters might one day find them. Especially to those doubly and triply targeted and taken for granted, black and brown and indigenous and immigrant women, sapphic women, trans and nonbinary women who fight the hardest yet benefit from the fruits of their labor decades and centuries after the rest, but fight anyways.

What a ride! Beautifully written, and that pacing...so much happened in the span of 500 pages, it felt longer and yet short. The story vaster than those pages ought to hold.

Loved the take on history, the reminder that the suffragists movement was in shades of grey and how the Maiden, Mother and Crone tropes were subverted.

'Behind every witch is a woman wronged.'

Juniper, Agnes and Bella have my heart. Cleo and August and Jennie as well. ❤️

I can smell the lingering taste of magic in the air, even after closing the book.

I need to process but wow, I absolutely loved this.

Witchy, sisterhood, women's rights ... this was so much more than I expected it to be.

It is a bit of a slow story and normally I don't like that but this was so beautifully written and grabbed me from the start. Highly recommend this ❤
