I haven’t loved Harrow’s other books (I’ve only read two). They were good, but felt more basic. But this was so much more (and about 3 times longer). I love how she brought in the familiar of fairytales and wove them into the narrative with a new bent. I didn’t have to pay that much attention and the book was easy to follow (I listened to it). It was a comfy, soft read about bonds, witches, the audacity of mediocre men (without shoving it down our face), and the familiar pulling of stories from my childhood.

Forget every book I’ve ever given 5 stars to, because this one is the new standard for me. This may be in my top 5 favorite books EVER. Alix E. Harrow somehow weaved a story women’s suffrage into the return of witches AND incorporated such unique spins on so many of the fairytales and nursery rhymes we grew up with. The mind of Alix E. Harrow must be a wondrous place to have come up with a story like this. I will be thinking about this one for weeks, if not months.
