I think I needed this to be shorter. At this length, I found myself starting to get frustrated by the frequency of the metaphors and flowery prose and was like omg get on with the plot I am begging you.

I'm also not a fan of background music added to audiobooks, which was done continuously for this one. I expect most people will actually enjoy that production aspect, but it was not for me.

Solid read, with enough history woven into the story to keep it feeling real..  The relationships rang true, as did the treatment of women in the time period.  The commentary on power was eerily prescient, considering today’s political climate.
