This is my fifth book by Camilla Sten & just like all of her other books The Resting Place was another spine tingling page turner! This author has become one of my auto buys for me! I still have aways to go before I get through all of her books but every book I read just makes me want to read more! Camilla Sten just has a way of capturing her reads from the first page!
I really enjoyed the diary entries in this book! And let me just say that is one messed up grandma! The twists & turns & the suspense is great! The final twist at the end, really didn't see that coming! Could you imagine having face blindness & witnessing a murder? The murderer could be standing in front of you & you wouldnt even know it! I started this book at 11am on Tuesday & was finished 13 hours later! I couldn't put it down! Great read! Thank you St. Martins Press for sharing another great read with me!

Spine-tingling and absolutely engrossing.

You guys know I love my dual timelines, this one delivers one that has you on the edge of your seat! Buried family secrets, face blindness and murder!

Eleanor suffers from a condition where she is unable to recognize faces. This creates the biggest problem when she walks in on her grandmother being murdered. However cruel her grandmother was to her, Eleanor takes the death very hard and suffers from fear the killer will come back.

Several months after the death Eleanor learns about a secret estate her grandmother kept from her. A lawyer wants to meet her there to take inventory and prep to sell. Here she uncovers buried family secrets.

A slow burn thriller but with creeptastic vibes on edge with tension. If you like Alice Feeney or Kate Morton you will love this one!

Thank you to Minotaur Books, NetGalley and Camilla Sten for the gifted earc, and redreadreviews for the giveaway win of the physical copy.

Eleanor suffers from prosopagnosia, also known as "face blindness," a medical condition that inhibits her from remembering faces, even the faces of those closest to her. With the help of her therapist, Eleanor has learned to memorize "markers," like hairstyles, bone structure, or beauty marks. Without these markers, Eleanor sees everyone as a stranger, including her family and long-time boyfriend.

When Eleanor walks in on her grandmother's murder, she comes face to face with the killer. Choosing to stay with her ailing grandmother instead of pursuing the assailant, the killer gets away, and every day, Eleanor fears she may again come face to face with the murderer--except she won't even recognize them.

Still dealing with the devastating effects of watching her grandmother die and letting the murderer walk free, Eleanor is informed that her grandmother willed her a looming estate in the Swedish countryside. Eleanor, along with her boyfriend Sebastian, alcoholic aunt Veronika, and probate lawyer Rickard, travels to the estate to uncover the secrets behind this secret mansion--the place that has seen far too many tragedies. Unfortunately, the group quickly learns that some secrets should remain buried.

The Resting Place is a milestone book for me. It's my first Nordic Noir novel, and my first book by Camilla Sten. It's also the book that helped me through my longest "reading funk." I read this in a 24-hour span, unable to put it down except for sleep. Even then, I dreamed about it. Sten has the wonderful ability to write truly immersive, atmospheric, and chilling settings. The manor was claustrophobic, dark, and dank in the best ways, making for an excellent "locked in" mystery setting. Her characters are written so raw and real, I can picture them before me. She uses themes like identity, childhood trauma, PTSD, and PPD, and she writes them in a way that makes them relatable to anyone--even if you haven't gone through these experiences yourself. The Resting Place is truly the definition of an unputdownable story.

Told in a faster pace than typical Scandinavian crime fiction, The Resting Place is the perfect book for readers interested in dipping their toes into the Nordic Noir genre. I highly recommend this one!

Never in my life have I ever been SO distracted by remembering characters who have multiple names. Imagine trying to guess Rumplestiltskin’s name. When you guess correctly he goes, “no actually my name is Stilly”. Then when you get that down it’s changed to “Rump”. Then finally you’ve got it, and are convinced it’s not changing, he now introduces himself as Gregory… Sure, no worries. Let’s stand in the 8 hour long DOL line and change your name for the 3rd time! I am not great at compartmentalizing this gargantuan family tree in my head.

After the Lost Village, I was super interested in where Camilla Sten could head for me because I loved the eerily atmosphere in it. I will say that the atmosphere continues to be the best part, but it really is not my thing when it comes down to preference as the story unfolded in comparison. Some will like this better, others like myself, will wish for another book similar to The Lost Village.

I received an ecopy of this book via Netgalley; however, my opinions are my own.
