I am giving the book 2 stars for the creepiness factor. The author did a good job with the setting of the old house, it felt very creepy and realistic. However, the story moved very slowly and at times the names were so similar that I had to go back and make sure who was talking.

Couldn't put this book down! It kept me guessing the whole time, and I didn't guess correctly the huge twist.

Spoiler questions that make me hesitate to give this book 5 stars:
First spoiler question, regarding big reveal:
SpoilerDoes Kicki not realize that she didn't kill the original Vivianne who actually killed her mom? Could she have retained any memory of Anushka whenever she was 5 years old? I suppose not since she may have been a bit traumatized by everything.

Second question, about the diary:
Spoiler It is assumed (correct?) that Eleanor knows that the original Vivianne is not the one that Kicki wants revenge on because she translated all of the pages? It stated that she only translated half of the diary due to the bad cell service. This means that she probably didn't know the truth, but us readers do?

Third question, minor, inquiring about a character's fate:
SpoilerIs Rickard okay?

The first two questions really make me wonder if the whole truth is revealed. The third is just hoping the character is okay.

I will be reading this author's first book and any other books she publishes!

Thank you to Minotaur Books and Camilla Sten for letting me read The Resting Place early. This one hits the shelves on 3/29

Wowee I love Camilla Sten. She swept me away with her last book, The Lost Village and now she’s done it again with her newest masterpiece. The Resting Place is full of flawed and complete characters, such a creepy atmosphere and a pacing so fast I read this one in just a few sittings. I definitely recommend this one!! Get your preorders and library holds ready, my friends!

Eleanor lives with prosopagnosia, the inability to recognize someone she know’s face. She’s anxious and stressed out. She’s always questioning everything. When she walked in on the murder of her own grandmother, she came face to face with the killer- only to not be helpful to the police. Then a lawyer calls, her grandmother, Vivianne has left her a mansion tucked away in the Swedish woods. A place with a huge history full of mysteries. Eleanor, her boyfriend, Sebastian, her aunt, Veronica and the lawyer head to this house of secrets looking for answers. They find things they never wished for.

The Resting Place is not what you think. There is no pause, no respite, and is not a long nor meandering sort of read. It’s a hit the ground running thriller with a great twist of an end that’s taking full advantage of its locked room trope. While the protagonist’s facial recognition disability could have been better utilized as a plot device and to give more sympathy to her unreliability, the story’s backstory plot was well done. Camilla Sten once again creates Nordic dread in a desolate landscape very well here.

Many thanks to @NetGalley for providing a copy for review.
