It really was a chore to finish this book and I gave it 2 stars just because I couldn't give it 1 and 1/2. I just couldn't get interested in it. For me, it took too long into the story for me to wonder "who did it" and decide that I just had to finish.

Bruce Kohler wakes up in detox at Christmas believing he can stay sober without being bored. (Curious to know what he did that so memorable when he was drunk).
Then a fellow alcoholic dies.
Once he is out he joins two of his friends to determine whether alcoholics are being murdered.

I saw this book on the new author shelf at the library and picked it up on impulse. I thought I would enjoy it more than I did since I have worked as a recovery social worker and tend to enjoy mystery novels. Meh. The mystery part was a bit mediocre, I thought. Plus, my recovery background was actually a disadvantage in reading this book. The author keeps explaining the jargon and peculiarities of AA/recovery subculture in the book. So, for me, the pace of the book was often derailed by these interjections and did not add to my understanding.
