So I just physically can’t give it more than 3 stars. Because it genuinely was just absolutely gross. The content was just plainly gross for the sake of it. Now did I like the ending and the message that the book did have with Rock, yes. But the skateboard scene, and the hop scotch and just all that

This book is full of depravity, gore, and incomprehensible empathy towards a fucked up character. Definitely screams splatterpunk.

Truly gruesome read

poorly written, not compelling, honestly boring and no reason for it to be such an ‘acclaimed’ or popular extreme horror book

it is so bad, i wanna give it a zero, but that's not possible. so i give it a one (1).

This is a book that definitely bases its plot on the whole "Splatter Gore" theme but I found that the plot also held some very unnecessary themes. I definitely don't think the whole "incest" thing was needed nor the underlying hints of pedophilia which definitely made it a very uncomfortable read rather than dark. Without those themes I think I would have actually enjoyed the plot.

The writing style prevented me from feeling anything for the kids somehow. Their deaths are brutal, yes, and the overall idea of the playground and its architecture were truly interesting, but I never felt the emotions that something like that should evoke in a reader. No disgust, no sadness, no anger. The most disgusting part was about the old lady's weird fetish about her mom.
