I was hoping to enjoy this book considering I was looking for something a little more horrific to read, but I was severely disappointed and overall I thought the author's writing wasn't great.
I would like to try another of Aron's books, but I'm not sure I have the mental capacity to read more from him.

Hmm. Definitely not as bad as The Slob books, but it was more gory. The story was quite good as well.

From page one it was the worst book I had ever read. At first I was going to finish it with the hope that it would get better. Eventually it got to a point where I finished this out of spite.
Entirely pointless book. A bad spiritual successor to Saw, horrible writing in every aspect, and just pure shock value for the sake of shock value. Aron Beauregard cannot write children.
Don’t waste your time. It’s not even disturbing, it’s just gross. And not in a fun way either. There is something fundamentally wrong with you if you take pleasure in portraying or taking in violence against the most innocent.
The worst part about this was that the book randomly took a turn in an attempt to make you feel bad for the situation. You can’t do that. You have not earned sympathy, you cant suddenly act like this violence has weight to it when you revel in its goofiness.
I very rarely call any art worthless but this was worthless.
Despite how terrible The Slob was, I for some reason decided to read this. I’m kinda glad I did. It’s not great by any means, but I think it’s a lot better than The Slob and shows that Beauregard can actually create characters and conflict which is engaging. I genuinely did enjoy most of the characters in this story and that made their gruesome deaths actually hurt more. I think the concept of this was simple but cool.
Still, Beauregard finds ways to make everything become incredibly corny at a moment’s notice. From Bobby skateboarding Sadie’s mangled corpse down a buzzsaw slide (which I’ll admit is kinda fucking hilarious) to the weird switch of Rock spouting off insanely corny one-liners at the end, I think there’s a lot of tonally jarring stuff here which makes it hard to really take seriously. I mean, as seriously as you can take anything in this genre.
Also, stop putting stupid sex scenes where you talk about vagina crust and shit like that. It adds literally nothing. You could have just implied the sexual abuse or just left it with the chapter where Geraldine goes to her sex mirror maze which is more thematically interesting for her character while also being disgusting. I feel like every hackjob writer thinks that adding SA to their story makes it engaging or whatever, but it doesn’t. Rock being Murder Mommy’s munch doesn’t really do anything. It’s just stupid. ESPECIALLY when you follow it up with the fucked up mirror chapter which was fucking GROSS but EFFECTIVE for the story you are telling.
Anyway, this is worth reading if you are into disturbing stuff IMO. Surprisingly endearing when it wants to be, and the grotesque detail is impactful at times. Falls apart a bit near the end, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy this one.

In the beginning it’s a very slow book to start with. Alot of family’s and explaining involved. Then from page 40 untill around 47/48 i found our why men shouldn’t write about female sex anymore. It’s just straight up disgusting to day the least, also imo could be left out for the rest of the story. After that when the ‘playground’ finally starts it actually goes to a good readable book. Alot of horror, gore and fcked up stuff. But a good story as a red line. The end is maybe a bit predictable when you read it but the end is almost wholesome and feelgood.
