All three of these stories are so beautifully written. I loved the picturesque, all-American charm and imagery contrasted with the paranoia and ongoing struggles behind closed doors. I will definitely be reading more of McCullers' work!

I’m not a huge fan of the short story genre, but I love the little Penguin modern books as a way to introduce me to a new (to me) writer. These stories are well written, character studies. Nothing much happens. They’re not full of twists and turns, or drama. But they’re engaging.

Three very moving short stories that reminded me how much I enjoyed reading Carson McCullers' work many years ago. I will definitely be reading more by her again.
