Interesting concept if you compare it to social media or the internet in general today. The fact this was written in 1909 is super impressive. It's so short I don't really know how I feel about it beyond neutral positive.
This book is like the glance you give your friends as you wait for them to get the joke.
Pretty fucking cool ngl, definitely a quick read I'd recommend to friends.
The Machine Stops is a very well written, nicely built escalation within a short story that discusses class, technology, and especially the question of what humans are willing to trade in in return for comfort, perceived security, and individuality. Kinda scary to think about how this story was written in the early 20th century and how it now resonates with our age of modern technology, especially communication technology.
The Celestial Omnibus is definitely different, not as straightforward and not as engaging (sorry), but fitting in theme as it (I believe lmao) discusses the commodification and perception as status symbol of art. Quite short, very easy read.

A quick read, the connection to HG Wells Time Machine is unmistakable, but I could not stop thinking about the film THX 138 from George Lucas. I'm a little confused by the air that sank and was different than our own air, might have to do with lack of scientific knowledge on Forster's part. It's interesting that his focus was on the connection to nature, it's no surprise, but I would have enjoyed a story from him about homosexuality. His brief passage at the end of Maurice hinted at a future where homosexuality could only be decriminalized if no one were to speak about it. Kuno was a sort of ideal man in this story, fit and sensual and committed to nature, and he was heterosexual, wishing for a wife and children. I just think it would have been interesting to see what Forster might have thought the future for queer folx could have been like.
Then again, he seems to have been a bit reluctant in that regard... Hmm.
