The Machine Stops is a book I regularly give as a gift and always recommend. It is a short read but it is packed with truth that has only become more relevant to our species in the years since it was written in 1909. It is remarkable that E M Forster's writing resonates so strongly with our current devotion to a machine way of life. The Machine provides us with food, education and entertainment, just as Forster's does and when it inevitably stops, as ecological overshoot hastens in civilisational collapse, the consequences will be dire. Yet, there is hope in the Wessex hills, for the remnant at least.

Read this book for class, very short novella, absolutely fascinating how this book was written in the early 1900s and felt so true to current times

not the general systems collapse theory following me everywhere this week
