Leilani’s writing is impeccable. This book did not go in ways I ever expected. I appreciated that. A book about a young twenty-something trying to figure out the next phase of her life.  A story about pleasure and what brings someone pleasure. Is it material goods? Is it being wanted sexually? Is it the agony and joy of being a creative? Or something a bit more meta?

messy, raw, imperfect. there were things i liked and things i didn’t. i appreciated the complexity of rebecca’s character, and enjoyed reading about the bond that develops between akila and edie. however, i found eric to be fucking insufferable and annoying to read about and spent the entirety of the book wanting to kick his kneecaps out. i honestly hoped edie and rebecca would end up together bc they both deserve better than him lol
