I really wanted to like this book and I just didn't. The writing style was very wooden and didn't engage me, which made the characters feel unreal. The storyline was just plain silly and unbelievable.

I've enjoyed Dawn's other novels but this left me cold. Not a very good story (would people really react so calmly to this situation?) , and I really didn't warm to any of the characters. Picked up slightly towards the end but not enough.

I thought this was quite ordinary and a bit unbelievable in parts. I like Dawn French as an actor / comedian but I don't think I would be in a hurry to read another of her books.

I'm not sure what to say about this book.It was ok but I wasn't desperate to keep picking it up & reading it.
The story was pretty unbelievable & I can't say I really warmed to any of the characters either .I kept hoping something fabulous was going to happen to grip me but it never really did.
It was a real shame as I usually love Dawn French books but not one I'd want to reread sadly .

Ok, so, I've heard of never judge a book by its cover, but not never judge a book by its blurb. The blurb was really deceiving in my eyes. It just wasn't what the book was about! I though the plot line was quite strange and v out there and I was like what the 😶?! And it was all a bit strange. But I'm not gonna spoil it for anybody so 😶!

I didn't particularly like the characters until the end when they all put a bit of a stamp on ma heart! I think in the end my favourite character was Iva the maid. I'd loved to have know more about her. I though Rosie was a complete twat at times though and I was like WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?! Regarding her personal life and the way she was bringing up the kids she was a nanny for. But overall I ended up liking her. I also liked the way she made Red and Three (the children she was the nanny for) think outside the box a bit! And Glenn, what can I say, she was a bit of an annoying plonk at times but the WB household would fall apart if it wasn't for her cold but study nature!

I wasn't really enjoying the story until the last 100 pages really but by then I was invested completely and was sad that it was ending (a bit)! I though the ending was great though and if I was the kind of person to frequently cry at books, then I probably would have. And I think some people will be annoyed at the ending but I wasn't angry at all because it just felt right to leave it there (and I had my suspicions she would end it like that anyhoo)!

I’m sorry WHAT?!?! Wtaf was that ending. I wanted to know WHO. I kind of wished I hadn’t read the other reviews before going into this book because they majorly spoiled the plot. A lot of reviews criticise this book for its content, and they really shouldn’t have. Dawn French is a comedian, and this was a humorous very ADULT book. From the get go, I knew I was going to love this book, contrary to the others who belittled this book.

This had me reading non stop until I finished this. Oh the storyline. Oh the jokes, the humour, the pure outlandishness of this whole book. I loved it. So now you’re asking me why I didn’t rate it 5 stars. Well… two things.

Firstly, I was getting a little frustrated with the quick changes between POV. I never really knew as I read each paragraph whose pov it actually was. One second it would be Rosie, the next it would be Thomas with no warning whatsoever. I can see where Dawn French tried to make the blend seamless, think it’s just a me thing tbh.

The second reason I cannot give this book five stars is that I really really REALLY need to know WHO. The ending made me scream!!!! Dawn please write back to one of my reviews on any platform and explain to me just who it was in your head. Please. Please. Please šŸ™šŸ»

Rounded up from 2.5 stars, which still feels generous. I just don’t get it? I love Dawn French and it’s the first of her novels that I’ve read, but my God, every character in this book lies between insufferable and painfully cringey. The storyline begins promising - a lost Mary Poppins esque nanny here to save a family with her wit and charm who then reveals herself as first a homewrecker, then a predator, and finally a comforter to a man who assaults her?! The worst part is the fact that the only character who seems to see any issue with this is the bleak Glenn, especially when it comes to the revealed pregnancy. With three potential Father’s across generations, I couldn’t help but feel uncomfortable and questioning whether this was a form of incest? Nevertheless, I finished the book utterly bewildered. Maybe that was the point.
