Unfortch, this is probably my least favorite in the series to date. Maybe I just dislike change? And I didn’t lol once!

I just find these volumes incredibly soothing --- I start reading and I'm back into a charming and extremely snarky world where things are always changing but nothing is ever too dire. It helps that Alison is a master of pacing on the one page strip; every panel does its job and provides exquisite comedic timing.

This installment is a bit of a change of pace. There's very little of the supernatural, and it appears to be part one of a multi-parter.

Shauna's mom gets re-married, she meets her Dad, her brother Darren is a bad egg. Lottie and Mildred aren't really solving any case here, either. Blossom Cooper is a menace, but also in need of a friend.

When this story was being published online, I remember being very surprised about the main course of the plot, and surprised by some of the characters' actions as well (mostly Shauna). I feel like when I was able to read it all at once as a book, and now that some time has passed, I was able to see some nice parallels in Shauna's decisions in the present day vs. those she made in her childhood. I definitely appreciated the story more, even though it's a bittersweet ending
Spoiler and even though there was no mystery! >:/

Also I remember so many of these comics... I think this story came out during my first semester of grad school (which was really tough), and I was CLEARLY obsessing over the panels haha

Read this last year on the Scary Go Round website and never got around to marking it on Goodreads. I love anything by John Allison, and Bad Machinery is just so much fun. The mystery kids are just the beeeest!

As always John Allison writes a great story, though there are changes to relationships that I don’t like.
