The first 45% of this book is not a dark romance, it's just dark. Addie finds herself in an absolutely terrifying situation that is very hard to read about. The only reason I was able to keep pushing through was because I knew eventually the author was going to get her and Zaid back together. The second half of the book brings back the spice that I came to expect after reading the first book. However, the depiction of the Romance takes an especially dark turn in this novel. Obviously, Addy and Zaid have never had a normal relationship, but the depictions of violence against each other in this book were perhaps a bit too dramatic. I am not a fan of reading about knife play, so most of the spicy scenes were not for me. Overall, I really enjoyed the ending and I'm glad that Addie and Zaid got there "happily" ever after.

This book was a lot better than the first one! I can tell HD Carlton put a lot of effort into this story and the dialogue/thoughts of each character. I felt like the first one was a little cringe, but this one was a lot better in terms of cringe levels. Still a little bit, which is why I gave it a 4.75 instead of a 5. For example, “it’s so quiet, you could hear a mouse fart.” Is not something you’re expecting to see in a dark romance novel? Just my opinion, but she could have left that out. Overall very good and I will be continuing to read more of her books!

If there’s one thing I’m absolutely feral for, it’s a redemption arc.

This was even more heavy and dark than the first, especially within the first 50%. I was thoroughly immersed and on the edge of my seat watching the finale unfold. I’m glad I took a chance on seeing what this duet is all about for myself. Do I think this duet is a must read for everyone? Absolutely not. Check the trigger warnings and be wary, because this is a pitch black disturbing realm that will have you questioning many morals.

Horror suspense erotica, that’s about how I can sum this duet up. Zade and Addie are reminiscent of The Joker & Harley Quinn in this second installment especially. Psychotic, deranged, sick, and twisted. The cat and mouse duet will be sticking with me for a long time.

4.5 ⭐️ // 4.5 🌶️

I didn't think i would ever DNF a book but this is my exception. i read books to have fun and become lost in the words. this just made me feel horrible. i read a brief summary of the book but it doesn't compare to reading it for yourself. i do not recommend and after reading some especially harrowing scenes i needed to cry and hug my boyfriend. as someone who gets extremely invested into series and attaches themselves to the characters' world, i found myself in a dark place where i mistakenly thought i would find an enjoyable book.

"Meadows. Our last name is meadows, baby"  HAD ME FOLDING. However, some scenes and diaglonue had me cringing so bad- I was just waiting for this story to end. The pacing in the beginning was well, I felt like. It's when (imo) after Addie is saved the pacing felt rush.

I don't like Zade but I liked his romantic comments more in this book but he's still him. Addie deserves ALL peace. Everyone deserved what was coming to them 🙏

Also, I felt like addie and her mom's relationship never really developed?
but the event where her mom gets shot and her dad is PISSED about it is so... I don't know. I can see why it happened but with the state of their mother/daughter relationship, it felt dramatic for no reason. I understand why because it's still her mom but it just felt.. unprematured. Also, the audacity of her father was just b*tching at them literally THE PEOPLE WHO SAVED THEIR LIVES. Her father was annoying and needed to exit immediately.

Despite some of the dark themes and contents, there were scenes that cracked me up like the note from Rio.

I'm glad I'm done with this duology.

Editors. Just. Get some, editors. There were so many terribly written sentences, horrible similes and metaphors, and cringe-worthy moments of dialogue that I had to highlight all of them just to make myself feel as though I wasn’t as crazy as fucking Sibby. Since I powered through book one, I felt duty-bound to read this one and finish the duology but god it was a Herculean effort. The plot of the story is still intriguing, although Adeline’s captivity goes on for a bit longer than I feel is truly necessary. I do love the characters, especially Jay and Sibby. Also, there are a few very sexy one-liners during the sex scenes but even those were made less intriguing and spice-filled because of the multitude of errors throughout.
