As soon as the first book finished, I downloaded this one. This book picks up where the first one finishes. Again, read the trigger warnings. It says that this book is significantly darker than the first, I would agree, proceed with caution.

It is still a dual pov, this time written by the diamond (Addie) and the hunter (Zade). This story is also written in two parts, and it is not a quick reunion.

Addie has been taken, and her experiences living in a human trafficking den are harrowing and a hard read. It is sad seeing her fight dwindle at times, but she holds onto the fact that Zade will do anything he can to get her back. She is resourceful and bides her time until there is an opportunity for her to try and escape.

This time, her chapters are accompanied by the pages of Molly's diary, a previous occupant in the den. I loved the reunion Addie and Zade had, and although she is free from the clutches of Claire, she has to navigate life with PTSD. I thought these scenes were well written, and Zade was incredibly supportive.

Zade is losing his mind over losing Addie and is doing everything in his power to save her. It highlights the torment and helplessness he feels, and families would feel being in this situation.

Claire Williams, being the head of the human trafficking trade, was sn interesting and unexpected twist.

I LOVED the scenes with Sibby. She added some lighthearted moments to a dark read. Her innocence is endearing, and I love how protective Zade and Addie become over her. Some of my favourite quotes were when she discovered online shopping and Zade compares her to a 'giant cheetos puff, but in neon pink' and when she is on a mission she 'hops out of the backseat, slams the door, and starts skipping down the sidewalk like a goddamn buffoon'.

All the characters got their comeuppance, and reintroduction of The Culling was clever. I have discovered that dark romance smut is not something I enjoy, but I enjoyed the other elements of this book. The characters are well written, the plot is well thought out, and there were no loose ends.
