So many helpful perspectives in here and I really like the duality the author includes, both the light and the shadow aspects of being highly sensitive. It is a trait at the end of the day, and we have a real opportunity as HSPs to harness it for good in the world but we mustn’t use it as an excuse to not be in the world either. Very much looking forward to reading her other book “The Highly Sensitive Person in Love.”

This books has somehow gone down in history as something very profound, but I think the concept of “highly sensitive person” is more practical and intuitive than research based, like it’s suggested in the book. If you find you are highly sensitive to noise and outside stimulation and frequently feel overwhelmed this might offer some helpful suggestions, but it’s not that special.

Read around 70/75% and derived enough value to stop there. It was okay. I wish there was more differentiation between trauma responses and a sensitive temperament, although given the Western adversity to sensitive temperaments, I can see how these become intermingled.

My favourite points were:
• “Leave an air of mystery, not sympathy or pity”
• “Overarousal isn’t necessarily fear”
• The persona isn’t always bad, it’s useful to appropriate openness.

Interesting in that it provided a framework along with validation for the highly sensitive personality type. Provides evidence that the HSP has innate and inborn traits that predispose them to being sensitive. Other than providing a good description of how I operate, I didn't find this book very helpful. I think others might, but it wasn't for me.
