Gerald is sad. Piggie tries to make Gerald feel better by dressing up in different costumes.

Very sweet. But it's OK to enjoy things when you are away from your friends. You should not be dependent on others for the ability to find joy yourself.
Kid loves the book.

What a sweet book! I love the Elephant & Piggie stories, and this one is no different. When Gerald is sad, Piggie does his best to cheer him up--taking on the persona of a cowboy and a robot! But Gerald gets even sadder...why? With Willems' usual illustration and manner of conveying narrative, this book just does so much in helping children infer and interpret what's happening. A winner in my book! Great for grades K-2.

We get at least 3 Mo Willems books each time we go to the library. My boys started acting out the stories of best friends Piggie and Gerald using puppets. They love those two! You can't go wrong with Mo Willems.

8/5 ETA: I had a six-year-old read this out loud to me and it was a delight.
My first Elephant & Piggie book. This made me laugh a lot. I particularly like Piggie's snark at the end. I will definitely read more. Read for my grad school class of Lit & Resources for Children.

It's so awesome to have friends that will cheer up up when you're feeling down.
