Not King’s finest work, but a lot better than I expected! King has his uuh... mannerisms (you know, Guy Writing), so this being his first novel, where the premise is a teen girl discovering her latent telekinesis after she gets her first period...... you know?

I really wish the formatting was better, though. I don’t think there is a single published version of this book (I looked at both digital and printed copies) where the intermingled excerpts from in-universe books/newspapers/etc are easily discernible from the "normal" narrative parts.

Also lowkey listened to the musical while reading the end ✨✨

reread :
this book is just okay on my scale. my rating is low because i like the musical better and find the male gaze perspective to be really wack in the book. the characterization is weird, the descriptions are off, the pacing is slow, and the n-word is dropped twice so randomly. i do still like the big events that do occur in the book and the conclusions some of our characters meet. fun fact: the audiobook is narrated by the actress who played Carrie in the original movie
