Reading this in 2023, it must be stressed that this was not only one of King's earliest works, but also depicts material that was seen as taboo at the time.

That being said, I personally did not enjoy the reports, articles, and narration all as a framing device. I found it jarring and would sometimes ruin what happens next in the story prior to the narration getting to that point. I realize this is intended as foreshadowing and is supposed to add to the suspense, however, it had the opposite effect for me and ruined all tension. I think this problem could've been solves by having the narration come first for moving the plot along rather than any plot beats.

While most of the characters are terrible people, Carrie's mother stood out as a memorable antagonist. I wonder if this character was an inspiration for Annie Wilkes in Misery.

Still, I applaud King for such a unique story, especially the time period published. I'm glad I read it but probably won't resist any time soon.

This book is great; it's the novel that then gave us one of the greatest authors of our time.
All 242 pages are flawless; The story is about a girl who has some supernatural powers and the journey into High schools of the 60s and the religious mindsets around that time. Her limit is reached, causing her to use her powers to seek her revenge against her bullies, and ultimately everyone in her wake. This book makes you feeling many emotions and my heart broke for the abuse and sheltered life Carrie had to endure. The flow of the book is gripping; from the story telling of the events and the snippets of interviews and articles that followed 'Prom Night'. I was sucked in from the first page and read in the in 2 sittings.

This was so good. Fast paced. I only gave it 4 stars because sometimes the wording confused me and the book doesnโ€™t have chapters which threw me off at first but I got use to it.

โ€œThose are my breasts, Momma. Every woman has themโ€ (148).
๐ถ๐‘Ž๐‘Ÿ๐‘Ÿ๐‘–๐‘’ is a complex horror book that explores many themes; those that stand out most to me investigate and celebrate the โ€œnaturalnessโ€ of female anatomy. It may be odd to phrase it this way, but parts of this book remind me a bit of the โ€œWAPโ€ music video. Both texts celebrate female sexuality and anatomy (very differently, mind you.) I love how Carrieโ€™s power stems from her womanhood. She is not powerful ๐‘–๐‘› ๐‘ ๐‘๐‘–๐‘ก๐‘’ ๐‘œ๐‘“ the menstrual cycle, etc., but ๐‘๐‘’๐‘๐‘Ž๐‘ข๐‘ ๐‘’ ๐‘œ๐‘“ it.
Of course, this is all my opinion. Others could surely point to Carrieโ€™s abilities as a way to fight against her motherโ€™s violent/hyper-religion or, simply, as a way for Carrie to come into her own.

Thereโ€™s a lot to say here. I guess I just really enjoyed this novel. Hope you do/did too!
